Job Description

The Yorkton Tribal Council Child and Family Services (YTCCFS) Inc. is seeking an enthusiastic dedicated individual to fill the position of Cook for the Keeseekoose Family Wellness Centre. This is a term position that could lead to full-time.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Cook reports to the Program Manager/Other and is responsible for planning and providing well balanced and quality meals that focuses on land-based education and healing. He/she must be deft in moving around the kitchen and apt in multi-tasking. The Cook must have experience in using various ingredients and cooking techniques is also important. First Nations and aboriginal people have a very strong connection to the land, and very strong desire to protect the land, but also to move forward in a modern form [with] how we practise our traditions, which includes our food, as food is a very integral part of our feasts and cultural activities. This position will be located on the Keeseekoose First Nation.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 High School Diploma
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certificate
  • Valid Safe Food Handling Certificate with knowledge and experience in First Nation Food Preparation and cooking

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Inspect supplies, equipment, and work areas for cleanliness and functionality.
  • Order and maintain inventory of food and supplies
  • Purchase, unpack and check all groceries according to menu planning
  • Provide receipts to match with items purchased
  • Ability to cook outdoor on the land
  • Knowledge of special diets. Ie: allergies, celiac, and vegetarian
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills of daily meals
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and time management skills
  • Ability meet tight timelines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of initiative
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Ability to work shift work and weekends
  • Ability to ensure the highest level of confidentiality relating to all staff and clients

 

Salary is negotiable according to YTCCFS Inc. salary grid. Candidates selected for an interview are required to provide proof of education upon attending the interview.
